Bicycle Committee
The Provincetown Bicycle Committee was created in 2011 to advise the Board of Selectmen on planning and policy to improve conditions for riding bicycles in town. This includes recommendations for improvements to on- and off-road bicycle facilities, installation of bike racks and other bicycle-specific amenities, public safety education, and encouragement of riding bicycles for both recreation and active transportation.
The committee participates in local, regional, and state planning efforts and collaborates with town staff, other town boards, civic organizations, and regional, state, and national bicycle advocacy organizations.
The committee publishes the Provincetown Bike Map & Safety Guide, a four-fold brochure that is updated annually with a print run of 25,000 copies and distributed for free at all of the bike shops and many brochure racks.
Each May, the committee hosts a number of events and activities as part of National Bike Month and Bay State Bike Week, including Bike to Work Day, a Bike Repair Clinic, the Blessing of the Bikes, and a Children’s Bike Rodeo.
The committee also maintains the Bike Provincetown page on Facebook with frequent updates about meetings, events, and general information of interest to people who ride bicycles.
If you’d like to get involved or have suggestions on how to improve bicycling in town, please come to one of our monthly meetings, contact us on Facebook, or reach out via email to Biking Info.
