The Town of Provincetown and Provincetown IB Schools are excited to announce the expansion of Provincetown’s Early Learning Center (ELC), which will open a third Infant Toddler room later this summer.
To support this expansion, the School Department requested an additional $125,000 in funding; $100,000 of which will come from the Early Learning Center’s revolving fund balance for FY24 and then be built into the operating budget in FY25, as well as a $25,000 request from the Finance Committee for a one-time capital expense to retrofit a third classroom.
This $25,000 request from the Finance Committee reserve fund was discussed and approved by the Finance Committee on June 6, 2023.
“When the superintendent came to me with this request for expansion, I did not hesitate to support it,” said Town Manager Alex B. Morse. “Our ELC is one of the best around, and given there were nine children on the waitlist, eight of whom are Provincetown residents and one who is a Town employee’s child, the opening of a third classroom will advance our commitment to our workforce and also support a vibrant, year-round community.”
In addition, Provincetown Schools received a $362,801 ARPA grant from Barnstable County for repairs and upgrades to the Provincetown Schools Early Learning Center building and grounds, which will include overhauling the playground surface, upgrading heating/AC systems, installing new lighting, painting, and supporting staffing.
“I want to thank the Town Manager and Finance Committee for their support, as well as Barnstable County for their grant funding,” said Provincetown Schools Superintendent Gerry Goyette. “By opening this third room, we will be able to accommodate nine new children into this exceptional program.”
Provincetown IB Schools Early Learning Center, located in the Veteran’s Memorial Community Center at 2 Mayflower Street, serves children from eight weeks old through kindergarten, and holds the Infant/Toddler Program, Preschool, Prekindergarten, and Kindergarten programs.
