On January 25, 2024, Town Manager Alex Morse submitted letters to the Select Board and the Provincetown Public Pier Corporation with his recommendation that the Select Board consider taking the actions necessary to dissolve the Pier Corporation and return the management of MacMillan Pier to the Town under the oversight of the Town Manager and the Select Board.
The full letter with the Town Manager's recommendation, reasoning, and next steps, can be found here.
The Select Board will hold a Public Hearing on this subject on Monday, February 12 at 7:00 p.m. More information on that public hearing can be found here.
After the public hearing, if the Select Board agrees with the Town Manager's recommendation, the Select Board may place an article on the 2024 Annual Town Meeting Warrant for April 2024. If Town Meeting approves this recommendation by a majority vote, the Pier Corporation would be dissolved without any further action necessary, and all of the assets and liabilities of the Pier Corporation would be transferred to the Town.
"With this recommendation, I would also like to take this opportunity to extend my heartfelt thanks and appreciation to the current members of the Board of Directors of the Pier Corporation as well as all of its past members," said Town Manager Alex Morse. "Their excellent stewardship and management of MacMillan Pier demonstrated over the past 25 years is what has informed my recommendation today that its essential purposes have been fulfilled and it is no longer needed."
